Plenty of solid record releases are set to happen this Friday, so start digging for change in the couch cushions so you can grab ’em all in a timely fashion:
Aldous Harding – Party
This one marks New Zealander Aldous Harding’s first record release on 4AD, and the nine-track sophomore LP features contributions by Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) and folk singer Fenne Lily. (FUN FACT: It was also produced by John Parish, who was the first person I ever interviewed for BYT back in 2009.) Aldous Harding can do no wrong in my eyes (or ears, I guess it should be), so I am maximally stoked for this release.
The Mountain Goats – Goths
Goths is The Mountain Goats’ SIXTEENTH full-length record, and it trades in guitars for pianos ‘n woodwinds with the help of fourth permanent member Matt Douglas. (As the title suggests, it talks growin’ up goth, but it’s not all doom and gloom.) Stream it in full here, and grab it on Merge for pre-order.
Wavves – You’re Welcome
After two years, we’ve got a new record on the way from Wavves; it’s out Friday via the band’s label Ghost Ramp, and the fuzz punk vibes should pair nicely with the impending heatwave we’ve got going on this week.
She-Devils – She-Devils
Not everybody listens to music with specific seasons in mind, but I’m big on that, and She-Devils’ surf-rock vibes scream SUMMER! SUMMER! SUMMER! to me. Like I mentioned above, we’re in for some v. warm weather this week and beyond, and I feel like I’ll have their debut LP She-Devils on heavy rotation once it’s out Friday on Secretly Canadian.
Land of Talk – Life After Youth
Land of Talk went through some tough times since its last release seven years ago, and no one was sure we’d actually ever get a new record. That’s why I’m SO STOKED that Life After Youth will be out in mere days on Saddle Creek. It’s a great listen, and definitely one you’ll want to get your hands on ASAP. Stream it on NPR right now.
Vince Staples – Big Fish Theory
Not a whole lot of information surrounding this record, and even its release is a little speculated; he tweeted “Friday 12AM” along with a picture of album artwork on Sunday, which feels like it indicates new material, but who even knows? Let’s just hope it’s true.
