NYC Best Weekend Bets (5.18.2017-5.21.2017)

I am VERY excited for the weekend-weekend (aka Saturday and Sunday) to arrive, because 1. I was out of town last weekend and feel out of sorts now that I’m back, and 2. IT IS TOO GODDAMN HOT OUTSIDE FOR THIS HEAT INTOLERANT HUMAN. And Saturday and Sunday promise no higher than mid-to-high sixties, which I am REAL HYPE ON. I will also be throwing a birthday party for Cher at my house on Saturday ’cause SHE’S WORTH IT! She’s also our GIF theme because I said so.

Before we get into all your choices the next few days, let’s briefly discuss what you may have missed while trying to figure out if Donald Trump is getting impeached or not:

  • More into Holy Fuck? Catch ’em at Bowery Ballroom for $15 w/ support from Odonis Odonis tonight.
  • Or just get to Rough Trade for a $15 MIHALI show!
  • Not into any of that? Catch Heather Nova, Mishka and Kate Grom at Highline Ballroom for $25.
  • Bankrupt? Try your luck at getting on the RSVP list for a free Digable Planets + Joey Purp show at House of Vans tonight. (Or just show up and act like you own it. Sometimes that legit works.)

  • To start, it’s the first day of the Brooklyn Art Book Fair, so make a point to swing by today or tomorrow to scope it out.
  • For movies, head to Metrograph for two screenings of Ghost World; Terry Zwigoff will be in person at both, but Steve Buscemi will be at the 6:45pm showing for a Q+A!
  • Tunes-wise, it’s the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash 2017 at Webster Hall! Tickets are $30.
  • Meanwhile, Ceramic Animal will be at Rough Trade for $12-$15 tonight.
  • Got all the money? See Future, Migos and more at Barclays Center for $69+.
  • OR hit up Irving Plaza for a $35+ Dreamcar show.

  • Or you can catch Nightlands over at Rough Trade for $12-$14.
  • Just wanna d-d-d-d-dance? Pop over to Cape House between 11pm and 4am ’cause it’s a new Feeling Gloomy ft. all of the tunes, drink specials, cake and MORE for a mere $6 cover.
  • For comedy, get to Union Hall for Boast Rattle ft. Kyle Ayers, Emmy Blotnick, Josh Gondelman, Maeve Higgins and others for $10-$12.
  • If you’re more into movies, run the gamut of culture at Metrograph with screenings of L’Avventura on one side of the spectrum and Bad Santa on the other.
  • You can also catch a $4 screening of The Great Dictator over at Syndicated…
  • …or watch people perform Robocop entirely from memory at Videology for $10!
  • Speaking of Videology, it’s David Lynch fever over there // Blue Velvet is screening for $16 (tickets come w/ bonus PBR) and Fire Walk w/ Me is on at midnight for $10.
  • More into talks? Get over to 92Y for a $50 chat between Ricky Gervais and TV critic Tim Goodman!
  • Broke dot com? Head to the Bell House for a Neon Joe Werewolf Hunter fan party ft. two new episode screenings, a Q+A w/ John Lee and Jon Glaser, giveaways and MORE! Free w/ RSVP to Adult Swim!
