We’ve got a whole slew of shows to shield us from the icy cold horrors of the impending #POLARVORTEX / here’s what we’re working with this week:

  • For starters, I would be willing to be that you spent most of your weekly allowance on drunk Seamless this weekend, SO, lets kick things off with something F-R-E-E. It’s another round of It’s A School Night at Brooklyn Bowl ft. Verite as a headliner, so be sure to RSVP and get there early, yeah?
  • Of course, if that ain’t your jam, just head around the corner to Rough Trade for ANOTHER free situation! Tonight Antemasque will be playing the venue at 7pm, so be sure to bunk off work a little early to ensure you get a space.
  • If you DO happen to have a little cash to spend on shows tonight, though, you should DEFINITELY hit up the early gig at Mercury Lounge ft. Seekae and Daniel Wilson, which will set you back an ultra-reasonable twelve bucks.
  • And while it’s not the most budget-friendly situation, James Vincent McMorrow will be playing Town Hall this evening (doors at 7:30pm / show at 8pm) for around thirty-five bucks a ticket. Could be worth it!
  • Personally I think we should head back to Brooklyn, ’cause Greighwolfe will be playing Glasslands tonight for just ten bucks with Kiah Victoria, Hanah and Noia. Doors are at 7pm, so you can expect to be home by a decent hour.

  • Tonight let’s begin at Mercury Lounge, where Wyatt will be celebrating an EP release for just ten bucks! We should note that it’s the early gig (show’s at 6:30pm), so be sure to get all your work done and blow that popsicle stand FAST.
  • OR if you’re not into the idea of heading into Manhattan, then just hang out in Brooklyn at Glasslands, where Tele Novella will be playing a show with Sunflower Bean, SUNBEARS! and others for just twelve bucks a ticket.

  • To start our evening of tunes off, I’m going to say Music Hall of Williamsburg is definitely where it’s at; Electric Youth will be playing a show with MIDNIGHT FACES at 9pm for just twelve bucks in advance / fourteen day of show.
  • MEANWHILE just around the corner we’ve got a solid lineup happening at Glasslands tonight, ft. Salt Cathedral, Santoros, Psychomagic and My Body, all for just ten bucks per ticket. Doors are at 7pm.
  • And up the street from THAT, we’ve got Clap Your Hands Say Yeah playing a show with Coastgaard and Teen Men. Doors open at 6pm, but the show’s not until 8, so provided you snag your twenty dollar ticket in advance, feel free to TAKE YO’ TIME ARRIVING.

  • Tonight you can hit up Music Hall of Williamsburg for a Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. show ft. Mini Mansions as the opening act. Tickets will run you twenty bucks a pop, and all the action kicks off at about 9pm.
  • Personally I think we should just pop down the street to Glasslands, where Mon Khmer will play a show with Bowmont and Tropic of Pisces for just ten bucks this evening. Doors are at 7pm, so try to get there early.
  • Looking for something slightly more affordable? Make your way over to Palisades tonight, where BOYTOY will play a gig with LURES, Sly Moth, Young Runner and YJY for the very low price of seven bucks.

  • So I’m one hundred percent going to recommend you come hang out with us at One Step Beyond at the American Museum of Natural History tonight, because it’s 1. with DJ Questlove, DJ Neil Armstrong AND Matthew Law, and 2. IT’S IN OUTER SPACE. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 day of show IF they don’t all sell out by then. (See also: GET THEM NOW.)
  • If you aren’t able to snag tickets to OSB, then seek solace downtown at Mercury Lounge; Caroline Smith will be playing a show with Lip Talk for the late slot tonight (10:30pm) for a super affordable twelve bucks.
  • Or if you’re just trying to have a mini-Lilith Fair experience this evening, probably hit up Music Hall of Williamsburg with forty-eight bucks in hand; Ani DiFranco will be playing a show beginning at 8pm.
  • Meanwhile, if you’re a Lake Street Dive mega-fan, then you’ll be happy to hear that tonight marks the first of TWO performances (the other being on Saturday) for the band at Terminal 5. Grab a ticket to this evening’s gig for $25, or shell out $45 for a two-day pass.
  • My non-OSB vote goes to Glasslands tonight, though…Yumi Zouma will take the stage as the headlining act, while Louis Weeks, Leapling, and Erika Spring (DJ set) will open things up. Tickets are ten bucks in advance / twelve day of show.
  • And if you’re still in the mood to dance after all that, scrape together fifteen bucks from the couch cushions and head to Brooklyn Bowl, where members of Animal Collective will be putting on a DJ set JUST FOR YOU.

  • Over at Bowery Ballroom, we’ve got a show from Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. with Mini Mansions AND Madi Diaz. To get in on all that action, 1. grab a twenty dollar ticket ASAP, and 2. get there by 9pm, which is when the show starts.
  • Not into that? Head a bit farther uptown to Terminal 5, where you’ll be able to catch the second night of Lake Street Dive for twenty-five bucks per ticket. Doors are at 7pm, show starts at 8pm.
  • We’ve also got some dope DJ sets happening at Glasslands tonight beginning at around 11:30pm ft. Shannon F (of Light Asylum and The Knife) and Lauren Flax (CREEP) for the ultra-low price of five bucks a ticket.
  • Baby’s All Right is where I’m going to put us tonight, though, ’cause we’ve got Tei Shi playing a gig with Yumi Zouma and Oyinda for ten bucks in advance, twelve day of show. Doors are at 8pm, show’s at 8:30pm.
  • OR if you can handle more Manhattan programming, slash can stomach the idea of spending the night at Cielo, Fred Falke will be in-house for what’s sure to be a rad set. Early tickets are $15, and then they will increase to $20.

  • For starters, Mahogany are playing a gig at Mercury Lounge this evening with The Veldt and Andre Obin, so be sure to grab tickets in advance when they’re just ten bucks as opposed to twelve day of show.
  • Meanwhile, just up the street at Bowery Ballroom we’ve got what’s sure to be a solid show from Lewis Watson, ft. Anthony D’Amato and Matt Sucich as the opening acts. Tickets will set you back sixteen bones.
  • And/or if you’re looking to head uptown and/or shell out about thirty bucks for a gig this evening, then probably head to Terminal 5 to catch Atmosphere’s North of Hell Tour; doors are at 8pm, show’s at 9pm.
  • But if you’re not trying to get out of Brooklyn, then just post up at Rough Trade; The Dream Syndicate will be playing a second (somehow not sold out yet at the moment of this writing) show this evening ft. Sunflower Bean as the opening act for $20.
